| BRYN MAWR BASKETBALL ENDS SEASON
WITH FIRST CONFERENCE WIN
Senior guard Deb Charamella scored 20 points and made four steals to lead Bryn Mawr to its first Centennial Conference win of the season over visiting Washington College (Md.) Tuesday night at Schwartz Gymnasium. It was the Owls' first win over Washington College since Centennial Conference play began in 1994 and it is their first conference win since a victory over Haverford in the 2001-02 season. Bryn Mawr ends the season 3-22 overall and 1-17 in the conference. Washington finishes the season 5-20 overall, 3-15 in the conference.
The game opened with three consecutive baskets scored by Bryn Mawr seniors. Charamella's opening basket was followed by a jumper from Tania Romero, and Miriam Gates scored a minute later to put the Owls ahead 6-0. Jeremy Cook put Washington's first points on the board at 14:41, and Bryn Mawr's tenacious defense and serious rebounding held the Shorewomen scoreless for another six minutes. Bryn Mawr led by as many as 14 points in the first half, but Washington kept chipping away at the lead. Bryn Mawr led at the half by five points, 25-20.
Bryn Mawr controlled much of the second half, leading by nine points with 6:35 left, but the Shorewomen put together a couple of offensive runs down the stretch to close the gap. A free throw from Brenda Lucas with 30 seconds left in the game brought Washington to within one, but Charamella hit a pair of clutch free throws to put the Owls ahead by three. Irene Pastorino missed the tying three-pointer at the buzzer making the final score 47-44 in favor of Bryn Mawr. Pastorino led Washington with 12 points and Kim Proctor had 11 rebounds.
