| ON CAMPUS: APRIL FITNESS MONTH, MEDIA COVERAGE
April Fitness Month Dance Classes Announced. This Friday, April 1, marks the beginning of April Fitness Month — no kidding. This year's monthlong celebration of wellness aims at maximum inclusiveness, providing a richly diverse array of activities for faculty, staff and students at all levels of fitness. The Department of Athletics and Physical Education is also offering free t-shirts to the first 60 participants as an incentive. Among the activities are three classes to be taught by members of the dance faculty. The subjects of these classes were announced this week:
- Tuesday, April 5, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Pembroke Dance Studio: Stretch and Relaxation. Director of Dance Linda Caruso Haviland will lead an hour of movement and offer some basic exercises that participants can do at home.
- Thursday, April 7, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Pembroke Dance Studio: Introduction to Modern Dance. Associate Director of Modern Dance Madeline Cantor will guide participants on "a fun-filled, rhythm-filled trip through dance and movement ideas," with live musical accompaniment.
- Thursday, April 14, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Introduction to African Dance: "If anyone can get you moving, Jeannine Osayande can," says Director of Dance Linda Caruso Haviland. Osayande, a longtime instructor at Bryn Mawr and the director of Dunya Performing Arts Company, will show participants the basics of West African rhythm and movement to the accompaniment of live drumming.
