| DREXEL E-LEARNING COORDINATOR TO DISCUSS
PODCASTING AND SCREENCASTING OF LECTURES
On Thursday, April 28, Jean-Claude Bradley, the e-learning coordinator at the Drexel University College of Arts and Sciences, will discuss two new technologies that have proven to be effective teaching tools in the hands of professors with limited technical expertise. The workshop will be held in Park 227 from 11 a.m. to noon; all are invited.
Screencasting distributes recordings containing both audio and screen-capture content to computers. Podcasting refers to the automatic distribution of files (usually audio) directly onto computers or mobile audio devices such as iPods and other mp3 players. At Drexel, both technologies have been effective, high-impact approaches to online learning. They are also, Bradley says, easy for faculty members to adopt, requiring minimal investments of both time and funds, with very little risk of failure. Bradley will discuss the application of these technologies to undergraduate chemistry and biology lectures at Drexel University.
Bradley's interests lie in the adoption of high-leverage technological tools to augment the educational experience for both faculty and students. The effective application of these tools, he maintains, can provide a quantitative assessment of the factors that affect student performance and satisfaction, such as procrastination and curiosity. He joined the faculty in the chemistry department at Drexel in 1996 and teaches organic chemistry, currently with a fully online option.
