| VISUAL CULTURE COLLOQUIUM SERIES BEGINS WEDNESDAY
This year's Colloquium in Visual Culture will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 21, with a talk by Center for Visual Culture Director and Associate Professor of History of Art Lisa Saltzman. The talk, "Kara Walker: In the Shadows of History," will be held in Thomas 224 at 12:30 p.m. This semester's program will range across the fields of visual studies, with lectures by scholars from within the Tri-Co community and beyond. Upcoming colloquia will feature such speakers as Nicholas Mirzoeff, a professor at New York University and the editor of the Routledge anthology, The Visual Culture Reader; Gwendolyn DuBois Shaw, newly appointed professor of American and African-American Art at the University of Pennsylvania and author of Seeing the Unspeakable: The Art of Kara Walker; Robert Shandley, a film scholar and Germanist from Texas A & M University, author of Rubble Films: German Cinema in the Shadow of the Third Reich and editor of Unwilling Germans? The Goldhagen Debate; and Patty White, director of Film and Media Studies at Swarthmore and the author of Uninvited: Classical Hollywood Cinema and Lesbian Representation and the co-author, with Tim Corrigan, of the new film textbook The Film Experience: An Introduction.
