    HURRICANE-RELIEF BENEFIT FEATURES GUMBO YA-YA

Next Thursday, Sept. 29, a New Orleans chef will turn Rhoads Dining Hall and its staff into a gumbo-generating force for hurricane relief. From 6 to 8 p.m., diners will be offered a traditional New Orleans-style menu and an opportunity to donate to three hurricane-relief organizations. The cost of the dinner is $3 plus pay-as-you-can donations; tickets will be sold at the door.

Organized by Bryn Mawr students with the help of the College's Civic Engagement Office, Conferences and Events Office and Dining Services, the dinner will benefit the ACORN Hurricane Recovery and Rebuilding Fund, the Louisiana Domestic Violence Victim's Relief Fund and the Preservation Hall Musicians' Relief Fund. Student organizers have already collected $400 through a Mardi Gras bead drive and will continue to exchange beads for donations at various places around campus through the coming week. Bank of America has pledged to match all donations.

The kitchen staff will be led by Andrew Spears, of Crying Onion Personal Chefs, who earned his chops at the world-famous Brennan's restaurant in New Orleans' French Quarter. The menu includes a green salad with New Orleans-style dressing, gumbo ya-ya (with chicken), and bourbon-glazed bread pudding. For more information, e-mail Paulina Trujillo at atrujill@brynmawr.edu.
