ON CAMPUS: SELF-GOVERNANCE DISCUSSION, BE THE CHANGE DAY, LEARNING TO LISTEN, PANEL ON SUMMER INTERSHIPS

Diversity Conversation Takes on Governance Issues. This Friday, Sept. 30, the topic of the biweekly noontime Diversity Conversation will be "Governing Ourselves: Does the System Support Everyone?" Associate Dean Michelle Mancini, Cara Petonic '07 and Emily McNabb '07 will lead the discussion. The event, which is free and open to all, takes place at the Mulitcultural Center; lunch will be served.

SAW to Send Contingent to Philly Be the Change Day. South Asian Women, a Bryn Mawr student organization, will join volunteers around the country for Be the Change Day this Saturday, Oct. 1, in Philadelphia, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Formerly known as the National Gandhi Day of Service, Be the Change Day draws "individuals who are attracted to the values espoused by Mahatma Gandhi and other leaders who have devoted their lives to public service and engagement in their communities." SAW will provide transportation to the event; for more information, e-mail Samrina Sattar at ssattar@brynmawr.edu. Those who wish to participate should register using an online form at http://saalt.org/regind.php.

Learning to Listen: Oboe and Piano. On Sunday, Oct. 2, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., the Learning to Listen Series will present Kathleen Needleman, principal oboist of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, with Amy Klosterman on piano. "Learning to Listen," sponsored by the Office for the Arts, invites students to hear young artists play and discuss the music of great composers, old and new, in a casual and intimate setting in the Goodhart Music Room. Organizers promise the opportunity to learn "everything you always wanted to ask about music" — along with afternoon tea.

An active chamber musician, Needleman has performed throughout the country, including Carnegie Hall, the Weill Recital Hall and the Metropolitan Museum in New York. A frequent participant at the Marlboro Music Festival, she performed in New York and Boston celebrating the Festival's 50th anniversary, and also toured the east coast with "Musicians from Marlboro." She also performs as a member of the Astral Winds, a woodwind quintet. She has appeared as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Concerto Soloists Chamber Orchestra, the Haddonfield Symphony, and the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia, among many others.

All Learning to Listen events are free, but seating is limited, so students should preregister for this Bi-Co event with Helene Studdy at the Office for the Arts at 610-526-5210 or by e-mail at hstuddy@brynmawr.edu.

Forum Features CECSP-Sponsored Interns. Four Bryn Mawr students will discuss summer internships sponsored by the Center for Ethnicities, Communities and Social Policy at a panel discussion in the Gateway Conference Room on Thursday, Oct. 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. Panelists are Caitlyn Clark '07, who interned at Camden Regional Legal Services and Camden Neighborhood Technology Project; Piya Mehra '06, who interned at the Open Society Institute (Soros Foundation); Jessie Posilkin '06, who interned at the Jewish Dialogue Group; and Megan Williams '06, who served her internship at the Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum.
