| COMBINED WORKPLACE GIVING CAMPAIGN TO BEGIN MONDAY
Organizers of the College's seventh annual Combined Workplace Giving Campaign, which provides a way for the College community to invest in Philadelphia-area community organizations, are adding Gulf Coast hurricane relief to the traditional list of local priorities for this year's campaign. The campaign will begin Monday, Oct. 17. The goal for this year's campaign, which will last until Nov. 23, is $20,000. Last year's effort raised $15,990 from faculty and staff donors.
The campaign offers donors the chance to give through a convenient payroll deduction that spreads the donation out over the 2006 calendar year. Donors may give to one of the five umbrella fundraising organizations — the AIDS Fund, Bread and Roses Community Fund, the Environmental Fund for Pennsylvania, United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania or Womens Way — or they may earmark their donations for specific agencies.
President Nancy J. Vickers wrote in a letter announcing the campaign to faculty and staff last week, "In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, we have witnessed great compassion and generosity, strength and determination, rising out of devastation and tragedy. No doubt many of you have already given money, goods or time to aid in the relief effort.
"As part of our seventh annual Combined Workplace Giving Campaign, in addition to your regular gift, we ask that you also consider making a contribution to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. You can designate an additional one-time or monthly contribution to the Bread and Roses Community Fund, the Environmental Fund of Pennsylvania, the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania or Women's Way, all of which have dedicated Katrina relief funds."
More information about the partner organizations, including the agencies funded by each one, is available in a fact sheet that will be distributed to all members of the faculty and staff via campus mail (or download a PDF version here). Packets of information will be available in Benham Gateway, Campus Center, Canaday Library, the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research, Human Resources, Ward and the cafeterias of Erdman, Haffner and Rhoads.
All donors, regardless of the size of their gift, are eligible to be entered into a drawing for four $25 gift certificates from Strawbridge's. The College will also be giving away an additional four $25 gift certificates just for first-time givers.
