OWLS NAMED TO INQUIRER 'S ACADEMIC ALL-AREA TEAM

The inaugural edition of The Philadelphia Inquirer's Academic All-Area teams, published in December, featured two members of the Bryn Mawr soccer squad, defenders Amelia Taylor '06 and Krystin Wessner '08.

Sports information directors from 28 Philadelphia-area institutions of all three NCAA divisions chose the teams based on student-athletes' grades and athletic performance. The Inquirer's academic teams for each fall sport honor the students who were best able to balance athletics with academics, while performing at a high level in both.

Taylor, a native of Newton, Mass., completed her third season with the soccer team this past fall, starting in all 18 of Bryn Mawr's contests. She excelled on the field in 2005 as a defender, providing consistent play throughout the year. Taylor racked up her first career assist in a nonconference game at Gallaudet University (D.C.) on Oct. 22. After playing in 45 games during her career for the Owls, the senior will leave Bryn Mawr with a double major in philosophy and French.

A native of Columbia, Md., Wessner was a key component of the Bryn Mawr defensive unit this season. While starting in all 18 games this year, the speedy sophomore was all over the field in 2005. Heading into next season, Wessner will use her 31 games of experience and light feet to be a pivotal member of the Owl's 2006 defense. Off the field at Bryn Mawr, Wessner majors in psychology.

Taylor and Wessner, who were both named to the Centennial Conference's Academic Honor Roll in November, were two of only 12 women's soccer players honored by the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (PHILLY-SIDA) and the Philadelphia Inquirer. The two organizations will team up once again in the winter and spring for the second and third installments of the Academic All-Area teams.
