| ON CAMPUS: WOMEN'S CENTER FUNDRAISER, FORUM ON SUFFERING, CRAWFORD RETIREMENT PARTY
Women's Center Fundraiser. On Friday, March 24, at 7 p.m., the Association of Multicultural Organizations will host a karaoke and silent-auction event to raise money for the Bryn Mawr College Women's Center. The Women's Center is a student initiative that serves as a resource center to grapple with issues such as abuse, body image, feminism, identity and sexuality. All students, faculty and staff are welcome at the event. Admission costs a dollar, and there will be a charge of one dollar for refreshments and one dollar for each karaoke song sung.
Making Sense of Suffering. The Veritas Forum, an association of Christian organizations at Bryn Mawr and Haverford that brings a religious perspective to discussion of challenging questions, will host a pair of events at both colleges next week. Organizers stress that the events "aren't just for Christian students. They're for anyone who wants to think about life, listen to quality speakers and have conversations about it. We welcome and honor skeptics and their questions, and even bring some of our own."
On Wednesday, March 29, Ellen Charry, associate professor of systematic and historical theology at Princeton Theological Seminary, will offer a talk titled "The Pain of Suffering" at Haverford's Stokes Auditorium at 8.p.m.
On Thursday, March 30, Catherine Clark Kroeger '48, an associate professor of classical and ministry studies at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary, will offer "Making Sense of Suffering" at 7 p.m. in Carpenter Library.
Each talk will be followed by a question-and-answer session and an open reception.
Farewell to a Legend. Professor in Science and Environmental Studies and Professor of Geology Maria Luisa Crawford '60, who joined Bryn Mawr's faculty in 1965 and has inspired generations of geologists and environmentalists, will retire after the semester. The MacArthur Award-winning scholar will be feted on Thursday, March 30, at 4 p.m. in the Cloisters (or, in case of inclement weather, in Thomas Great Hall). All are welcome. <<Back to Bryn Mawr Now 3/23/2006
