Conference on Child and Adolescent Health. Tonight, Thursday, April 6, at 7 p.m., in Thomas Great Hall, Caitlin Ryan, the director of adolescent health initiatives at the César E. Chávez Institute of San Francisco State University's College of Ethnic Studies, will deliver The Anita D. Lichtenstein Memorial Lecture, "Family Impact on the Health and Mental Health of LGBT Youth." The lecture will be a keynote address for "Child and Adolescent Health: Vulnerability and Resilience," a conference that will continue the following day. Marguerite Johnson, the former vice president for health programs at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, will deliver a second keynote address, titled "Disparities R Us: The Effects of Race, Ethnicity and Class on Health and Health Care," at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 7. The conference is sponsored by the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research's Center for Child and Family Well-Being. For more information, see the GSSWSR Web site.
Perennial Swap. The Staff Association will sponsor a perennial swap on Friday, April 7, from noon to 2 p.m. Members of the College community who are dividing perennial plants in anticipation of high gardening season are invited to bring perennials to share and find new ones to plant. The swap will take place in the Cloisters in Thomas.
Retirement Reception. President Nancy J. Vickers and Secretary of the General Faculty Earl J. Thomas will host a reception for longtime Senior Lecturer in French Roseline Cousin on Monday, April 10, at 4 p.m. in Wyndham Alumnae House. Cousin, who has taught at Bryn Mawr since 1986, will retire from the faculty at the end of the semester. AFSC Program Coordinator to Speak on Drug War. The Spanish Department's weekly culture series will offer a lecture by anthropologist David Bronkema, program coordinator of the American Friends Service Committee's Latin American and Caribbean Programs. The topic: "Drogas, fumigación y muerte: la guerra química de los Estados Unidos en Colombia y su impacto en la region." The talk will take place on Monday, April 10, at 7 p.m. in Thomas 110. All are invited.
Master Class in Capoeira. Ron Wood, also known as Zen One, will offer a master class in capoeira to Tri-Co students on Thursday, April 13, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., in Pembroke Studio. Wood is the founder and artistic director of the Zen One Dance Collective, a theater-based hip-hop company that combines dance, martial arts and music. He began dancing in the clubs of Philadelphia, and in 1995 he joined the highly acclaimed Rennie Harris Puremovement, of which he is still a core member. Wood holds a black belt in Kenpo Karate and the rank of professor in ASCAB Capoeira.
There are six to eight spaces available to Tri-Co students, but participants must call the Dance Office at x5208 to register. All are invited, but the class will be taught at the introductory level.
