BI-CO CHAMBER SINGERS TO PERFORM IN HISTORIC CHURCH

Chamber Singers

On Sunday, April 9, the Bi-College community and Philadelphia will have an opportunity to catch a sneak preview of much of the program the Chamber Singers of Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges will perform on its upcoming tour of Puerto Rico. The ensemble, directed by Haverford Associate Professor of Music Thomas Lloyd, will perform at 4 p.m. in the Church of the Holy Trinity in Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Square. No tickets are required; a free-will offering will be taken to benefit the church.

The Bi-Co group will give the final concert in a new College Choir Festival, a series of choral concerts in the historic sanctuary of Trinity Church that began in February with the West Chester University Choir and continued with concerts by the Princeton Glee Club and Chamber Choir, the Houghton College Choir, the University of Pittsburgh Men's Glee Club, and the Lehigh University Choir.

The Haverford/Bryn Mawr Chamber Singers concert will be a wide-ranging program of selections including Renaissance motets by Sweelinck and Robert Ramsey, 20th-century sacred compositions by Jean Berger, Olivier Messiaen and Charles Ives, Romantic partsongs by Edward Elgar and Hans Gál, international folk song arrangements from previous tours to Venezuela and Poland, a selection of Puerto Rican songs, and a set of African-American Spirituals.
