Nonprofit Executive Leadership Institute
United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania will provide scholarship assistance to four nonprofit leaders to attend the 2007 Executive Leadership Certificate program offered by the Nonprofit Executive Leadership Institute at Bryn Mawr's Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research, NELI Director Catherine Ormerod has announced. Nonprofit leaders from the five-county Philadelphia region are eligible and encouraged to apply for the scholarships.
Bryn Mawr College launched the NELI program in 2004 with the goal of increasing both individual and organizational capacity and performance by helping leaders more effectively manage resources, ensure accountability and achieve their programmatic missions through a certificate program that leads to a Certificate of Nonprofit Executive Leadership from the Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research. Participants earn the certificate at four intensive sessions spread out over eight months. The course schedule allows working professionals to participate in the and test their new skills immediately in the workplace. NELI Fellows do approximately 100 hours of coursework.
Three central features of the NELI curriculum work to ensure individual growth:
- 360-degree individual leadership and management assessment supported by Executive Coaching;
- Seminars featuring theoretical models, best-practice reviews and practical tools taught by a nationally recognized faculty; and
- Peer networking that supports leaders and breaks executive isolation.
The 2007 NELI Fellows will begin coursework on March 8, 2007, and will complete the program November 10, 2007. Admission is selective and applications must be accompanied by a letter of nomination from the agency's board of directors endorsing the executive's application. Full tuition cost is $5,000. United Way will select four nonprofit leaders each of whom will receive $3,750 to attend the NELI program.
Nonprofit leaders who work with agencies that are aligned with the following UWSEPA priorities are encouraged to apply:
- Preparing children to achieve in school;
- Building adult independence and self-sufficient families; and
- Strengthening neighborhoods and communities.
