Bound and Determined Exhibition Opens with a Lecture on the History of Bookbinding

A new exhibition will open Tuesday, Jan. 30, in the Rare Book Room in Canaday Library with a lecture by Daniel Traister, curator of research services at the Annenberg Rare Book and Manuscript Library at the University of Pennsylvania.

BMC Cagers Defeat Longtime Rival Swarthmore

Bryn Mawr basketball picked up its first win over conference rival Swarthmore in 14 seasons on Tuesday, Jan, 29. Junior co-captain Katie Driscoll grabbed her first double-double of the season as the Owls edged by the Garnet 53-50 in Schwartz Gymnasium.

LEAP to Offer Training in Leadership, Organizing Skills

The Leadership Empowerment and Advancement Program, or LEAP, aims to develop and foster leadership skills in students at Bryn Mawr, integrate the leadership development efforts by different departments on campus, and identify core competencies in the field of leadership that will guide future training initiatives.

Ellis Avery '93 to Read from The Teahouse Fire

Ellis Avery '93, whose debut novel The Teahouse Fire has earned glowing praise from reviewers, will return to Bryn Mawr on Wednesday, Jan. 24. At 7:30 p.m. in Ely Room of Wyndham House, Avery will read from her novel and demonstrate the Japanese tea ceremony that is central to its narrative.

Federal Government Expands Bryn Mawr's National Flagship Language Programs

Under the auspices of the federal government's National Security Education Program, Professor of Russian Dan Davidson is leading an effort to address a need for better proficiency in "languages critical to the nation's security."

At the gala celebration of the launch of the Katharine Houghton Hepburn Center at the Kimmel Center in September, videographers recorded the awards ceremony at which Lauren Bacall and Blythe Danner received the first Katharine Hepburn Medals. Biology Professor Wins NSF Grant to Study the Stop and Go of Rhythmic Behavior

Professor of Biology Peter Brodfuehrer hopes to shed some light on the initiation and termination of rhythmic movements of all sorts by investigating one of the simplest examples of it: swimming in the medicinal leech.
