| On Campus: Spanish Cultural Series, Body Image Awareness, Visual Culture Colloquium, Chorale Seeks Tenors and Basses
Spanish Cultural Series Begins with History of Latin American Art. On Monday, Jan. 29, at 7 p.m. in Thomas 110, GSAS student Matthew Feliz will kick off the Spanish Deparment's weekly cultural series for the spring semester with a lecture titled "Las artes en Latinoamérica: 1492-1820." Feliz, a doctoral candidate in history of art, served as a research associate for Tesoros/Treasures/Tesouros: The Arts in Latin America, 1492–1820, a major exhibition shown at the Philadelphia Museum of Art last fall.
Other Bryn Mawr participants in the series include Lecturer in Spanish Peter Brampton Koelle and a panel of Bryn Mawr students who have studied in Spanish-speaking countries. The guest lecturers include Emilio Buitrago of the Casa de Venezuela, Anjanette and Natalia Salgado of the Council of Spanish-Speaking Organizations, José Luis Gastañaga of the Department of Modern Languages of Villanova University, and Gabriela Blanco of the Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology of Drexel University.

Body Image Council Offers Info, Gifts. During February, Bryn Mawr's Body Image Council will observe Body Image Awareness Month with a variety of activities and discussions. For more information, visit the Campus Center Monday, Jan. 29, between 11:15 a.m. and 3 p.m. or Tuesday, Jan. 30, between 11:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., when members of the council will answer questions and hand out promotional gifts.
Bryn Mawr Film Institute Education Director Opens CVC Series. The Center for Visual Culture's weekly colloquium series will open Wednesday, Jan. 31 , with "John Candy's Working-Class Body," a lecture by Bryn Mawr Film Institute Director of Education Andrew Douglas. The colloquium meets Wednesdays in Thomas 224 from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m.; light refreshments are served.
This semester's series will include topics related to film, photography, architecture, the beginnings of Islamic visual culture and more. Presenters span a range of disciplines. Bryn Mawr faculty members included in this season's lineup are Associate Professor of Greek, Latin and Classical Studies Catherine Conybeare and Associate Professor of History Ignacio Gallup-Diaz.

Chorale Seeks Deeper Voices. The Bryn Mawr-Haverford Chorale will begin rehearsals on Wednesday, Jan. 31, for Ernst Bloch's landmark Sacred Service and Philadelphia composer Andrea Clearfield's acclaimed new "Golem Psalms." The large choral ensemble, led by Haverford Associate Professor of Music Thomas Lloyd, includes Bryn Mawr and Haverford students, faculty and staff, as well as singers from the surrounding community. Tenors and basses are especially welcome. Interested singers can meet with Lloyd in the Union Building on the Haverford campus between 2 and 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, or e-mail Lloyd for an appointment.
