Philadelphia Area Educational Technology Conference
Takes Place at Drexel Next Week
Senior Instructional Technologist Laura Blankenship has marshaled a wealth of expertise in pedagogical gadgetry for the Philadelphia Area Educational Technology Conference, to be held Feb. 22 and 23 at Drexel University. The conference, founded by Blankenship last year, is open to educators and technologists from all stages of the educational process, from elementary schools to research universities. The theme of this year's gathering: "Multiliteracies."
On Friday, Feb. 23, at 9 a.m., Chris Lehmann will deliver the conference's keynote address. Lehmann is the founding principal of the Science Leadership Academy , a new inquiry-driven, project-based, science-and-technology high school in Philadelphia. On Thursday afternoon, the conference will offer several hands-on workshops. Sessions on Friday will focus on course software, blogs and wikis, podcasting and more. Bryn Mawr Language Learning Center Director Christine Boyland will offer a session titled “Assessing Aesthetic Responses,” and Blankenship will report on the use of blogging in freshman composition courses, drawing on her experience co-teaching a Bryn Mawr C-Sem with Associate Professor of Computer Science Douglas Blank.
“We hope to foster discussions about the way technology is being integrated into the K-12 curriculum and the expectations that creates at the college level. We also hope to foster discussions about what skills students need to continue to develop at the college level and how technology can contribute to that development,” Blankenship says.
Registration for the conference costs $75, including lunch on Friday. To register, visit http://www.brynmawr.edu/etc/pat_registration.html. For more information, call Blankenship at 610-526-6578 or e-mail lblanken@brynmawr.edu.
