Bryn Mawr Renaissance Choir to Sing
40th Anniversary Concert April 29

Performance Features Favorites from European Renaissance

The Bryn Mawr Renaissance Choir will hold its spring concert at the Main Line Unitarian Church in Devon, Pa., on Sunday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m. Under the direction of Edward Handy, the 20-voice chamber group will be singing sacred and secular gems composed between 1450 and 1630 during the European Renaissance. Performing without instrumental accompaniment, the singers will entertain the audience with selections ranging from the enchanting Ave Maria by Josquin DePrez to the more modern sound of Claudio Monteverdi's Longe da te cor mio and William Byrd's What Pleasure Have Great Princes.

Based in the cathedral-like Thomas Great Hall at Bryn Mawr College, the Bryn Mawr Renaissance Choir has been performing several concerts annually for four decades. Formed in 1967 by Bryn Mawr doctoral student Stephen Bonime (Ph.D. '75), the vocal chamber group consists of students and professors from nearby colleges as well as experienced singers from surrounding communities. Conductor and Haverford alumnus Edward Handy, whose personal music library includes more than 1,500 vocal selections from the Renaissance era, has been directing the Bryn Mawr Renaissance Choir for more than 30 years.

The Main Line Unitarian Church is located at 816 South Valley Forge Road in Devon. For directions or more information about the church, visit the church's Web site at http://www.mluc.org or call 610-688-8332.
