On Campus: Farewell to Nancy Collins, Event-Planning Workshop, Shofar Blowing

Farewell to Nancy Collins. Departing Director of Public Affairs (and eagle-eyed Bryn Mawr Now proofreader) Nancy Collins will be honored with a reception in Wyndham Alumnae House at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5. When Collins becomes the vice president for communications at Franklin & Marshall College on Sept. 10, Bryn Mawrters will have to learn to look elsewhere for sartorial leadership.

A Head Start on Event Planning. Bryn Mawr's Leadership Empowerment and Advancement Program (LEAP) will offer a workshop titled "Planning and Funding Your Activities and Events" to leaders of student organizations next Thursday, Sept. 6, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Dalton 119. Members of the Civic Engagement and Intercultural Affairs staffs will lead the workshop under the guidance of Margie Dubrow of Creative Management Strategies, Inc., a firm that specializes in community planning and building the institutional capacity of nonprofit organizations. Repreresentatives of all student organizations are invited; for more information, contact Vanessa Christman.

Shofar, So Good. The Bryn Mawr College Campus Hillel, weather permitting, will have its annual shofar blowing in front of the Campus Center on Friday, Sept. 7-24 Elul, from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. The shofar is a Jewish ritual instrument crafted from a ram's horn. It is sounded every day except Shabbat during the Jewish month of Elul, the month before Rosh Ha-Shanah, the beginning of the Jewish New Year. All members of the community are invited to stop, relax, play a shofar or just listen. Anyone who has a shofar is encouraged to bring one.
