Parents in China Donate Masks to College

In April, Bryn Mawr families in China arranged for a donation of almost 30,000 disposable surgical masks for distribution to students and essential staff still on campus.

After providing for on-campus distribution of the masks, Bryn Mawr’s Chief Financial Officer Kari Fazio arranged for a donation of the balance to two local medical services—Main Line Health and Narberth Ambulance.

The effort got underway when Rongrong Shen P’22 sent a small supply to her daughter, Mia, who is one of the 149 students sheltering on campus. After Rongrong and her husband, Neo, decided to donate more, she started a WeChat discussion with other Bryn Mawr parents. To date, 106 families in China have joined in on the effort.

“The world is a whole. People around the world are as a one,” says Rongrong Shen. “It goes without saying that we should all help each other out, especially, during this extraordinary period with the spreading pandemic. Distance can't stop us from caring.”

“The heartfelt outpouring of support from the Bryn Mawr community during this difficult time is incredibly uplifting,” says Kate Morro, Director of International Relations.
