The Unofficial Strawberry Shortcake Cookbook

Alessandra Whitney ’93

The Unofficial Strawberry Shortcake Cookbook by Alessandra Whitney ’93, a longtime Los Angeles–based food journalist, highlights the characters in the  popular 1980s franchise and includes recipes inspired by and featured in the Strawberry Shortcake universe. As Whitney notes, though: “In spite of the subject matter, this is not a cookbook for children. It’s a nostalgia book aimed at fans who grew up with Strawberry Shortcake—Gen X and Millennials, even Boomers who got into it through their kids. Therefore, there are more challenging and sophisticated recipes, such as souffle, Crepes Suzette, eclairs, and some include alcohol.” There is also plenty of history and trivia for diehard fans. Whitney says she fell in love with baking when she got her first Easy-Bake Oven (a red Italian version) at age 5. She fell in love with Strawberry Shortcake when she was 10. (Simon & Schuster, 2022)
