Wit López, a multidisciplinary visual artist, performance artist, and essayist, has been named one of 12 Philadelphia Cultural Treasure Artist Fellows. The fellowships recognize and reward the efforts of talented, Philadelphia-based BIPOC artists and cultural workers who make a material difference in their communities. López, who is also founder and artistic director of Till Arts Project, a resource for LGBTQ+ artists and creators, combines fiber art, painting, collage, and photography with elements of theater and classical music to explore accessibility, queerness, gender identity, Blackness, and Latinidad. “This is an honor that is above anything I’ve imagined for myself, and I’m absolutely thrilled!” says López of the award. The same week, López was also named a 2022 Artist2Artist Fellow by the Art Matters Foundation in New York City. In this program, grant recipients—artists—act as the grant-makers.
