Lindsay Dever (Ph.D. Candidate, Math) gave the talk "The Trace Formula in Hyperbolic 3-Space" for the Study Group in Number Theory at the City University of New York Graduate Center.
Lindsay's November 9th talk focused on the trace formula. This formula is an important tool in number theory that relates spectral information (such as eigenvalues of the Laplacian) to geometric information (like the lengths of closed geodesics). In her presentation, she gave an overview of the geometry of three-dimensional hyperbolic space and proved the trace formula in this context, an area of particular interest for her graduate research.
