W.I.S.E. Advising
"Be well, be wise."
We often wish our students well. We aim to create an environment where wellness—physical, psychological, emotional—is a priority, as it is certainly central to the successful training of any premedical student. But equally as important is wisdom. Simply put, “wisdom” means having the knowledge to complete the steps through the Bryn Mawr Postbac Program in a way that maximizes chances for success. We believe that informed, individualized advising is a big part of how our students gain that necessary wisdom. So, here are the basic qualities of our advising, summed up in one simple acronym: W.I.S.E.
W.I.S.E. Advising
Welcoming
Effective advising starts in a community where you feel welcome—to ask any question, and to explore any idea or goal without judgment.
Individualized
We focus on identifying your individual strengths—in your academic preparation, in your personal and professional background, and in what motivates you to enter the medical field.
Strategic
We are here to provide accurate information, discuss your options, and help you develop a clear strategy for success.
Experienced
Good advice is about knowing recent developments or trends relevant to being premed, but it is also about sharing a perspective based on years of experience and data involving previous students who have traveled the same path as you.
Typically, postbacs at Bryn Mawr choose to come here because they recognize the value in having an experienced advisor guide them through the premed process with compassion and candor. Wisdom is the final gift of strong advising, and it is what we hope to be able to offer you.
