Welcome to Sonia, GSSWSR's Online Practicum Placement Platform.
The Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research (GSSWSR) uses a platform called Sonia that serves as a hub for practicum placement content. Sonia contains practicum placement research, matching, and evaluation capabilities and practicum course assignments.
While at GSSWSR, you will use Sonia to view and complete practicum forms and assignments, including the final practicum evaluation (completed by the Practicum Instructor in consultation with the student). During your practicum placement, Sonia will also be the primary platform for communication between you, your Practicum Instructor, Practicum Liaison, and the Office of Practicum Education staff.

Sonia is a comprehensive data management system that allows students to be active online participants in multiple areas of their M.S.S. practicum education by enabling students to search for available practicum placements, complete practicum course assignments, and communicate with their Practicum Liaison and Practicum Instructor. Sonia is not the name of a person, but rather an acronym for “School of Nursing in Australia” where this system was first developed.
Sonia is a web-based product that is accessible to Mac, iPad, and PC users. Sonia is supported on Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Safari. Please ensure you are using the current version of your web browser.
Yes, Sonia is secure and confidential. Only Practicum Education staff will have access to your practicum information. Assignments will be shared among the student, Practicum Instructor, and Practicum Liaison, as required.
Your Sonia username is your full Bryn Mawr email address. You create your own password through a secure link sent to you by the GSSWSR Office of Practicum Education.

Your Practicum Instructor will be assigned a unique login to allow access to Sonia. This will allow your Practicum Instructor to view the learning agreement, complete your practicum evaluation, and view other practicum related documents. If you change practicum placements, your new Practicum Instructor will not have access to any data recorded from your former practicum supervisor.
