This half day course provides an overview of behavioral health diagnoses associated with the following diagnoses: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Childhood Bipolar Affective Disorder, Pediatric Depression, Conduct and Oppositional Defiant Disorders and a brief overview of the Pervasive Developmental Disorders.

This half day course provides an overview of behavioral health diagnosis typically requiring some type of service intervention. The primary focus of this course is a review of the diagnostic criteria associated with the following diagnoses: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Childhood Bipolar Affective Disorder, Pediatric Depression, Conduct and Oppositional Defiant Disorders and a brief overview of the Pervasive Developmental Disorders.

A case-study format, involving small group work, will be used to discuss the important of differential diagnoses when working with children and adolescents with behavioral health disorders.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this session participants will be able to: 

  • List the three basic symptom categories associated with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Summarize the main differences between Autism and Asperger's Syndrome
  • Compare and contrast the symptoms of Conduct Disorder and Oppositional Defiant Disorder
  • Distinguish between ADHD and Childhood Bipolar Affective Disorder

This course is appropriate for all levels of practitioners.


Instructor

Dr. Craig Strickland

Presenter: Dr. Craig Strickland graduated from Bryn Mawr College with a Doctorate in Psychology and a focus on experimental research and neuroscience. Past positions include a faculty position at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and affiliate faculty positions at Widener University and Springfield College. He currently has guest lecturer privileges at the Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research, the Rutgers School of Social Work and an affiliate professor position at Thomas Jefferson University, East Fall Campus in the Community and Trauma Counseling program. Dr. Strickland is the owner of Biobehavioral Education and Consultation, LLC.
