Satisfies Suicide Prevention CE requirement (Act 74).

Delivery: Synchronous Virtual Classroom via Zoom

Working with clients at risk for suicide can be one of the most challenging clinical tasks for professionals. This program will address the importance of understanding one's self including professional competency and scope of practice as well as one's personal readiness to treat at risk clients. Focus and discussion will also be on assessing and treating clients who may be at risk for suicide.

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to: 1) identify their own reactions to suicide and how they impact intervention and planning; 2) discuss relevant statistics related to suicide; 3) discuss cultural considerations around the topic of suicide; 4) name key risk factors and protective factors; and 5) identify key elements to effective service planning for suicidal individuals. 

Presenter: Amy Saville, L.C.S.W., is a licensed clinical social worker in Middlesex County, NJ with a career history spanning 18 years of service to children, families, and child-serving organizations. She currently is a Training Consultation Specialist for Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care as well as project coordinator and lead trainer for “Creating Safe and Respectful Environments,” an initiative funded by the NJ Juvenile Justice Commission.
