These calendars provide an overview of student expectations as they progress through their course of study.

Expected Progression for Students in Archaeology, Classics, and History of Art

Language Requirements for M.A. pass French or German pass one ancient (Latin or Greek), one modern scholarly language (must include German now or at Prelim stage) pass two modern language exams

GSem Students in all three departments must take at least one GSem before coursework is complete.
Language requirements for Prelims ancient language: satisfied by successful completion of language work in seminar course; pass second modern language (French or German) pass second ancient language, second modern scholarly language none (language requirements completed before M.A.)
Prelims to be taken: Spring semester, year 3 Fall semester, year 4 Spring semester year 3 or Fall semester year 4
4 abroad for dissertation research (ASCSA vel sim.) completing Prelims, beginning work on dissertation teaching, applying for outside grants
5 dissertation dissertation dissertation
6 This will ideally be the final year of writing the dissertation. Expect to receive degree at May or December convocation.
7 If needed, complete writing dissertation this year, and defend in time to receive degree at May convocation.
(Students in Year 7 are unlikely to receive internal funding.)
