For social service working professionals
Bryn Mawr’s Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research launched its inaugural online Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) degree program in the fall of 2026. As one of the oldest social work schools in the country, our M.S.W. program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
The online Social Work Master’s program is a 22-month plan of study designed for social service working professionals at organizations in Philadelphia and the surrounding regions. The curriculum is built around synchronous, virtual evening classes that emphasize the development of professional skills and in-depth practice experience. Graduates are prepared to become leaders in a variety of social work settings, such as government agencies, health care services, clinical practices, and non-profit organizations.

Program at a Glance
This program is designed as a two-year, cohort-based program for applicants living in the Mid-Atlantic region (including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and DC). Those admitted to the program are required to follow the 22-month plan of study outlined below. Courses will be offered on Monday and Thursday evenings in a virtual, synchronous format.

Application Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university (accepted students must provide a final degree transcript before matriculating)
- Official transcript(s) from all colleges and universities attended
- Fall 2027 Application

Affording Your Degree
As you embark on your graduate school journey, we invite you to look beyond the sticker price, as Bryn Mawr has a long history of providing generous financial support to admitted students. Students typically finance their master's degree through a combination of federal student aid, Bryn Mawr College social work scholarship, private loans, and employer tuition programs. Admissions decisions are not contingent upon an applicant's level of financial need.
Employment-Based Practicum
The Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research (GSSWSR) at Bryn Mawr College allows students to use their current place of employment as a practicum education setting. This arrangement is designed to provide educationally rich opportunities that align with social work competencies while recognizing the dual role of the student-employee.
Employment-Based Placements (EBP) must be reviewed and approved by the Practicum Office.
