Delivery: Synchronous virtual classroom via Zoom

The course will review the 4 primary Survival Behaviors that are common and de-railing for trauma survivors.  We will explore how these 4 behaviors become entrenched, how they can perpetuate harm, and what clinicians can do to address and re-work the reliance upon them. 

Each section will be a 2 hour lecture on one of the behaviors. Content will be tailored for both trauma specific interventionists as well as practitioners who work with highly reactive clients who need strategies and support in navigating Survival Behavior in real-time.

By the end of this series, participants will be able to:

1. Relay the clinical considerations related to clients' election of survival behavior, the goals for safety, and how to validate dysregulation.
2. Determine the ethical obligations and points of guidance related to engaging and supporting client dysregulation and its impact on intervention efficacy.
3. Identify 6 real-time strategies to best support clients in managing their trauma reactivity.

Instructor

Laura Hinds, MSW, LCSW,  is Principal Partner of Hindsight Consulting Group, which provides training and small group interventions for non-profits of diverse foci, and is an instructor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice. An alum of Penn's SP2, Laura began her career as a direct practitioner with children, adolescents, and families at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, developing skills in HIV/AIDS specific care needs, case management, and high acuity hospital based social work practice, as well as psychotherapy. Laura is also the Chairperson Emeritus of the State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors, and a current Board Member of The Therapy Center of Philadelphia.
