Most of us feel very uncomfortable at the thought of talking about money with our clients whether it has to do with us stating our fee or raising it, negotiating a lower fee, asking to be paid for a late cancellation or assessing if the client really stopped being able to afford treatment.

In this workshop we will explore our inner beliefs about money and clinicians' ambivalence and inner resistance to receiving money. We will look at how our own unprocessed beliefs and feelings around being paid can hinder our clients growth.

Through case examples we will discuss how things are not always what they seem when it comes to money and why we need to carefully assess the situation and look for hidden needs and desires in order to help our clients grow.

The workshop will consist of lecture, experiential parts and discussion.

Learning Objectives: We will explore and discuss 1) the impact money has on a therapeutic relationship; 2) why not talking about money can hinder treatment;  3) how to discuss a sliding scale fee in ways that is both therapeutic and most beneficial to treatment; 4) how talking about money and upholding cancellation policy might be in the client's best interest.

The workshop will also have an experiential part during which we will explore our own beliefs and feelings about being paid as well as fears that come with it.
