Full House at the February Scott Lecture, Featuring Co-Founders from the Black and Brown Workers Cooperative!

The Center for Child and Family Well Being (CFWB) provides a variety of programs for diverse audiences, including the Scott Lecture Series and Lichtenstein Lecture events. The Center's theme for 2017-2018 is Trauma Informed Practice with children, youth, and families. Part 2 of the Child and Family Well Being's Scott Lecture Series was held on Tuesday, February 20th. The lecture, entitled Black and Brown Workers Cooperative, Owning Our Own Labor, featured discussions on the intersections of race, gender, gender identity, sexuality, and capitalism within the context of the labor struggle. Ms. Akilah, an alum of the GSSWSR, and Mr. Muhammad also highlighted the psychological and physical impacts of oppressive non-profit work spaces on Black and Brown bodies, and on how the struggle for the rights of workers is ultimately a struggle against the violence and trauma of oppressive systems. 

The CFWB will next host Dr. Joan Berzoff, author of many textbooks used at the GSSWSR, on April 5th, 2018. She will be speaking on Maintaining a Biopsychosocial Perspective in Agency Based Practice. All CFWB events are open to the public.
