My boss and I thought that any skills that benefit nonprofits would also be good for museum professionals.

Since 2004, the Nonprofit Executive Leadership Institute has helped nonprofit leaders become more effective agents of change. Our work is to support you in yours.

We believe in the power of people to transform their lives and their communities. We know that creating change requires vision, creativity, and courage. It takes resilience and perseverance. This has been especially true during the past year as we have experienced how the consequences of the pandemic have impacted our organizations. We have witnessed tremendous civic unrest and wrestled with economic instability.

As we all learn to navigate this volatile world, NELI remains committed to supporting the development of nonprofit leaders. We understand that no one individual can institute transformative change alone, and we know that change makers need allies and a supportive community.

Our trainers foster that community feeling and create a learning environment that invites you to stretch beyond your comfort zone. They encourage risk taking, experimentation, and learning in real time. We invite you to become more self-aware of your leadership style, lead from your strengths, and how to recognize the strengths in others.

Our programs provide a balance between cultivating your growth as an individual leader and helping you strengthen your skills in organizational capacity building. Our workshops are highly interactive. Our trainers have years of experience in their respective fields and a deep understanding of the realities of nonprofit life.

NELI is cohort-based, because we want you to learn as much from one another as from us by discussing problems and seeking solutions. You gain a network of peers and create connections that will last beyond your graduation.

NELI is now recruiting for the Executive Leadership Certificate Program (ELC).
