Bryn Mawr College collaborates with several local institutions, and some not-so-local ones, to ensure you get the most from your liberal arts education. 

The Quaker Consortium

Tied together by their shared Quaker roots, Bryn Mawr College, the University of Pennsylvania, Swarthmore College, and Haverford College make up the Quaker Consortium. As a student at Bryn Mawr College, the courses and facilities of all four colleges are open to you. Take a course at Penn. Visit the observatory at Haverford. Stroll through the arboretum at Swarthmore. Whatever your passions, you can find a bright path within this unique partnership.

The Locations

Each school is conveniently located in the Philadelphia region, with easy travel between campuses. Whether you're traveling by bus, shuttle, or train, you're never more than a 45-minute trip away from any other member of the Quaker Consortium.

Featured Course: CRWR 3200 Screenwriting at Penn

Students in Screenwriting will explore ways of writing affecting scenes, urgent stories, and powerful visuals for film and TV. Students will learn the language of visual storytelling and how to format scripts. They will explore story elements such as character, conflict in scenes, urgency of story, and more. Students will study successful film and television examples to better understand the complexity of a filmed scene. Then they will write their own micro-scenes.

Getting From Here to There

Travel between the members of the Quaker Consortium is easy! Here are your options:

The Blue Bus
The Blue bus runs between Bryn Mawr and Haverford multiple times an hour during the week, and every half hour during the weekend. 

The Tri-Co Van
The Tri-Co Van leaves once per hour from either Bryn Mawr or Haverford and arrives at Swarthmore 30-45 minutes later.

SEPTA Public Transit
SEPTA has many forms of transit available to students, including subways, buses, trolleys, and regional rail lines. As a Bryn Mawr student, you can ride these all for free using your Key Advantage UPass Card.

Did you know that Bryn Mawr College students can ride SEPTA (our local public transit system) for free? It's true.

Take a trip to the Penn Museum with Lourdes Sankar '27 and her Praxis I class as they learn about food preparation in the ancient world.

Featured Course: SPAN 247 Gastropoeticas de la cultura latinoamericana at Bryn Mawr

From Casta paintings to social media foodies, the cultural meaning of food forms ideas around race, gender, class, and status. In this class, we will study how food has formed cultural productions across Latin America. Students will write journals and a cookbook zine. They will also complete a field visit report to a local Latin American restaurant, and a final essay. As a Praxis course, students will be expected to complete 7-10 hours of community-engaged work with a local partner. Partners range from local food banks to organizations that work towards food security for Latinx communities.

Hop on the Blue Bus across from Pembroke Arch and head over to Haverford College, Bryn Mawr's Bi-Co partner.

As a Bryn Mawr student you can use the facilities at both Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges. This means we have access to great resources that don't exist on our own campuses, like Haverford's observatory and Bryn Mawr's dance studio.

Haverford and Bryn Mawr use the same portal to register for classes, so cross-registering at the other campus is easy. Just choose the class you want and go.

Bryn Mawr and Haverford's meal plans are connected, so pop over to the dining center and grab a bite any time.

Some programs in the Bi-Co exist only on one campus. Haverford houses the Fine Arts and Music programs, while Bryn Mawr has Geology, Dance, History of Art, and Growth and Structure of Cities, among others.

The Tri-College Consortium

Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges join together with Swarthmore College to form the Tri-College Consortium. The Tri-Co offers students the opportunities to take classes not offered on their campus, and to choose majors which collaborate between the three schools. These majors include Linguistics, Africana Studies, Asian American Studies, and Environmental Studies.
