BI-CO MUSIC AUDITIONS

BI-COLLEGE CHAMBER SINGERS Contact: Prof. Nate Zullinger, nzullinger@haverford.edu

A mixed choir of 30 voices who perform challenging repertoire ranging from the Renaissance to the present day in a variety of languages and styles. Rehearsals for Chamber Singers are Monday and Tuesday afternoons from 4:40-6:00pm in MacCrate Hall (Haverford) and Thursday afternoons from 4:20-5:40pm in the Music Room at Goodhart Hall (Bryn Mawr). Visitors are always welcome at rehearsals!

The Chamber Singers Winter Concert will include Morten Lauridsen: Mid-Winter Songs (excerpts), with additional works by Tallis, Zimmerman, Kopylov, Harris, and Kirchner. The Rotunda and Commencement Concerts will include J. S. Bach: Lobet den herrn, alle Heiden, Brahms: Four Quartets, Op. 92, Randall Thompson: Alleluia, with additional works by Belmont, Pfautsch, and Conte.

The Chorale is a Wednesday night institution in bi-college life. An oratorio choir of 120-150 singers, the Chorale performs a major work with orchestra each semester. Members include bi-college students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends from the surrounding community. The orchestra is made up of advanced Bi-Co musicians supplemented by conservatory students and professional instrumentalists from Philadelphia and the surrounding area. Soloists have included students who are members of Chorale and Chamber Singers and guest artists. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings 6:50–8:50pm, Marshall Auditorium (HC). Visitors are always welcome at rehearsals!

BI-CO ORCHESTRA AND CHAMBER MUSIC Contact: Prof. Heidi Jacob, Director, 610-896-1010, hjacob@haverford.edu

This fall the Haverford/Bryn Mawr College Orchestra will perform Bellini: Sinfonia from Norma, Haydn: Symphony #100 in G Major, The Military, Heidi Jacob: Winter Light for Violin and Chamber Orchestra, featuring Philadelphia Orchestra Violinist Barbara Govatos, Stravinsky: Berceuse and Finale from Firebird Suite (1919 version). In the spring semester, the orchestra will perform Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Suite from the Ballet Swan Lake, Op. 20a.

In Chamber Music, students will have the opportunity to work with Cellist Christine Lamprea, Pianist Sara Davis Buechner, The Omer String Quartet, and Network for New Music. Selected orchestra members will have the opportunity to perform with The Chamber Orchestra First Editions.

The Bi-College Jazz Ensemble rehearse on a weekly basis at Haverford (day and time TBD), and present at least one recital at the end of each semester. Rehearsals focus on performance, instrumental/vocal technique, and improvisation, as applied to a diverse jazz repertoire. Depending on the interests and strengths of the ensembles there may be opportunities for performances and participation in jam sessions at first-class jazz venues in Philadelphia such as La Rose, Time, Chris' Jazz Cafe, and Bob and Barbara’s.

All instruments/voices welcome.
