Information Session: Rally Program at Bryn Mawr College

February 8, 2016

Information Session: Monday, February 22, 12-1 pm, Bern Schwartz Gymnasium

Mandatory Training Session: Monday, February 29, 12-1 pm, Bern Schwartz Gymnasium

The Rally Program is a volunteer program that combines sport with skill building for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Do you care about this cause? Join the team if you do!

Bryn Mawr College’s Athletic Department, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and Rally have partnered to develop a weekly recreation class with members of the Center for Creative Works (CCW). CCW is “a studio-based vocational art program for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities.” Sessions throughout the semester will focus on the development of skills related to a particular sport, chosen by the group. In the past Rally has done beach ball volleyball, basketball, and track and field. Members of SAAC are instrumental in curriculum development, volunteer training, and general program oversight.

Volunteers will work with members of SAAC to foster an inclusive community, through recreational sports. Each Rally session includes time for every member to lead an exercise, a discussion of current events, health, and fitness, and/or activities structured to develop skills of the sport chosen by the group.

Volunteers need only bring an open mind, commitment, and eagerness to be a part of Rally! An information session will be held on Monday, February 22, 12-1 pm at the Bern Schwartz Gymnasium. Volunteers are required to attend the training session on Monday, February 29th and are expected to attend all Rally sessions during the spring semester. All sessions take place between 12-1 pm on Mondays at the Gym.
