September 8, 2016

Saturday, September 17, 8:00AM-7:30PM, FACTS Charter School of Philadelphia

Are you interested in human rights and social justice issues affecting Philadelphia and the U.S.? Attend this event to hear prominent advocates share experiences and strategies. Travel scholarships available!

The regional meeting is an opportunity for human rights and social justice advocates to come together to share experiences and strategies. The tribunal will gather information on human rights abuses prevalent or unique to the region from people directly impacted.

The goals are to highlight human rights concerns both in Philadelphia and in the US, like issues of arbitrary detention, police brutality, school closing and underfunded schools.

The convening will be Saturday, September 17th, from 8:00AM-5:30PM and the Human Rights Tribunal will take place after the meeting - from 5:30PM-7:30PM - and will be an opportunity for people directly impacted by human rights violations to testify before a group of jurists. The jurists for this tribunal are:

  • Leilani Farha, UN Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing
  • Helen Gym, Member of Philadelphia City Council
  • Ahmed Reid, UN Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent
