Arguing Against Philly School Privatization

February 10, 2016

Term Professor of Education Jody Cohen is one of several signatories to a letter sent to Philadelphia's School Reform Commission.

In the letter, Cohen and her fellow education researchers and experts, express their concern over the SRC's recent decision to privatize three more neighborhood schools.

From the letter:

Too many of those who demand privatization of public schools in the name of "choice" completely dismiss the choice of parents who want a neighborhood public school.

A Term Professor at Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges, Cohen's focal areas are urban education, education and diversity, and, more recently, education in prison and environmental education. She teaches such Education courses as Schools in American Cities, Multicultural Education, and Learning in Institutional Spaces, and in the Emily Balch Seminar Program her courses focus on identity/diversity and ecology.
