Bryn Mawr Joins Amicus Brief Supporting International Students

January 28, 2026

Bryn Mawr has joined a number of public and private colleges and universities across the country in signing an amicus curiae or friend of the court brief in a suit brought by Harvard University on behalf of international students and scholars.

Harvard is suing in the First Circuit Court of Appeals to uphold a judge’s preliminary injunction preventing the Department of Homeland Security from blocking the University from using student visas to enroll international students and scholars.

The amicus brief notes that the stability of student visa programs is essential to universities and colleges to fulfill their teaching, research, and public service missions and to the United States’ economic and civic prosperity.  It reads in part: “Student visa recipients have helped make the United States’ colleges and universities world-class research institutions tackling the world’s most pressing problems. These students have gone on to cure diseases, invent transformational  technologies, and found companies that have fueled American economic growth.”
