A growing presence of chaplains in federal and state government roles is heightening conversations about the separation of church and state. It is also leading to confusion among chaplains themselves about their role. Bryn Mawr College President Wendy Cadge, co-founder of the Chaplaincy Innovation Lab, tells the reporter: “It’s essential that chaplaincy—and spiritual care as a field—be able to articulate in a clear and consistent way who they are and what they do.”
