Chemistry’s Michelle Francl on Toxic Effects of Texas Chemical Fires

Professor of Chemistry Michelle Francl is among the experts NPR interviewed to explain the chemical reaction and health implications from the fires at a flooded Texas chemical plant in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

"It doesn't matter whether it was a chemical plant or not, the issues are real," Francl said. "People's lungs are irritated. There's a lot of unknown stuff floating around. Irritants can damage your lungs."
