Class of 2020: Jiayu Zhou

Posted May 5th, 2020 at 6:53 pm
Jiayu Zhou

Major: Anthropology

Minor: Growth and Structure of Cities

Key Bryn Mawr Experiences: Event Coordinator for Association of International Students; Bi-Co Japanese Peer Mentor for 1.5 years; Research Assistant for Cities Department; Teaching Assistant for Anthropology 102; Hanna Holborn Gray Research Fellowship (Summer 2019)

Hometown: Ningbo, China

People you want to thank: I would like to thank all the professors from the Anthropology Department and Cities Department for always supporting me intellectually and mentally. Special thanks to Prof. Liv Radditz for walking me through a tough time, Prof. Amanda Weidman for supporting my thesis research and offering me a TA ship, Prof. Seselj for bearing with my endless questions during office hours, Prof. Seung-Youn Oh for showing me another academic/career path, and Dean Judith Balthazar for always being there for me. I would also like to thank all the housekeepers, especially Dawn in Radnor, for making Bryn Mawr as comfortable as home. Finally shout out to my hell family and my friends: my four years at Bryn Mawr would be bleak without any one of you.

What you will remember most about your time at Bryn Mawr: I will miss eating grapefruit with a knife, miss all the philosophy I discussed with my friends and peers, the Bryn Mawr geese, the Taylor bell, and the flaming sky usually seen at 7:00pm during summer time and 5:00pm during winter. The castle will stay in my heart.

Members of the Class of 2020, we want to hear from you! Drop us a note at news@brynmawr.edu. Include a photo of yourself and let us know what you have planned for life after Bryn Mawr, who you'd like to thank, words of wisdom, or whatever else you'd like to say.
