Several Bryn Mawr dance program students and faculty took part in the annual Philadelphia Fringe Festival, held in September.

Rose Sunderland-McKay ’27, a dance and anthropology major, performed in Blank Packard Dance, Replay. Ari Simon ’29 performed in The Pelican and The Whale, directed by Sophy Jarka-Sellars ’26, and Interim Director of Dance Tammy Carrasco performed in LUNAR RETREAT as well as premiering her work The Sycorax at Crane Arts.

“The dance program brings students into Philadelphia through coursework and Tri-Co Philly Engagement Grants while regularly inviting Philly dance artists into the studio and theater at the college," Carrasco says. “We actively forge bonds between the Bryn Mawr dance department and the Philadelphia dance community in meaningful ways, and I’m proud of the students’ initiative to find themselves as not only artists on campus, but in our city.”

Bryn Mawr’s dance program offers a rich array of dance experiences — from studio, to deminar, to teaching in the public sector — for students who choose Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges. It welcomes newcomers and supports the continuing progress of trained dancers.

The program includes a range of technique courses in different styles and genres of dance, multiple performance ensembles, courses in composition and choreography, and dance studies courses that introduce students to dance as a cross-disciplinary area of research and inquiry.
