Laura Maioglio ’54 was interviewed by the New York Post for an article profiling four brownstones located above the restaurant Barbetta on the city’s famous Restaurant Row. Once part of a row of brownstones built in the 19th century for John Jacob Astor III and his family, these four townhomes remain and have been restored by Maioglio, who has presided over Barbetta since 1962.
“What you see now on this block is terrible,” says Maioglio. “People have no sense of preservation, of history! They put up horrible signs on the facades of these beautiful buildings…It is not inexpensive to maintain these houses, but it must be done.”
