September 28, 2016

Lily Zogbaum '19 has been awarded a Dean's Office Funding Award to present her research on cichlid pharyngeal jaw divergence at the Society for Integrative & Comparative Biology's annual meeting. Lily, a biology major, will travel to New Orleans in January for the conference.

Lily, who is from Northampton, MA, spent her summer at UMass Amherst studying the jaw shapes of fish from the cichlid family. According to Lily, she found a potential genetic basis for differing pharyngeal jaw morphologies among microhabitants.
