Planning a visit to Bryn Mawr? Jenny Hunken, Associate Director of Admissions and Coordinator of Visits & Events, shares her tips for making the most of your time on campus.
When choosing the right college for you, how do you know what right is?
You may know the size of the community you are looking for, or the types of academic departments you want to take classes in, but when distinguishing between similar schools, experiencing the campus for yourself can be one of the best ways to know if a school is right for you. Being on campus means you can experience the vibe, the "je ne sais quoi," and what it feels like to be part of a community.
This fall at Bryn Mawr, students will have a wide variety of opportunities to engage with us on campus. Most Mondays-Fridays, and select Saturdays, we will offer daily campus tours and information sessions. These visit opportunities allow students to engage with our current student tour guides, see our beautiful campus while imagining your life as a future Mawrter, and gain further insights into the Bryn Mawr experience and our admissions process from an information session led by an admissions officer. Most afternoons we also offer on-campus admissions interviews for high school seniors or transfer applicants, which can be a great way to provide additional depth to your application and get to engage with an admissions officer or a senior student one-on-one. While you are on campus, try to put yourself in the shoes of our students – grab a coffee or snack from Uncommon Grounds in the campus center, check out the bulletin boards to explore upcoming events and campus happenings, explore this fall's Special Collections exhibition Ruth Fine: In Search of the Place (opening September 9), or strike up a conversation with a current student!
The most immersive experience we offer prospective students visiting campus is our Fall Open House program on Monday, September 28.
The Fall Open House is the only opportunity for prospective students to sit in on classes and see our unique learning environment first-hand. Students will eat in the dining halls with current students and have a plethora of opportunities to connect with campus resources, see a dorm room, and engage with faculty and current students. Plus, as the largest event of the fall, you will have the opportunity to get to know other prospective students who may become future classmates!

We know coming to campus is not always an option, so we offer many ways to connect virtually with us. Even if you can come to campus, attending a virtual event may be a wonderful way to add additional depth and breadth to your understanding of Bryn Mawr. I would suggest checking out our Ready, Set, Bryn Mawr series, which includes a Financial Aid 101, Admissions 101, and Ask an Admissions Officer sessions (sign up for what works for you!). These sessions will help you get ready to apply to Bryn Mawr and get all your questions answered! No matter if you attend an event on campus or virtually, I recommend that you come with a question or topic you want to learn about that can help guide your visit. Think about what matters most to you in your college search -- whether that is finding a close-knit community, learning more about a particular academic program, understanding the student experience, or getting a sense of what life is really like as a Mawrter.
