This course studies the hierarchical design of modern digital computers. It covers the theory of machine architecture. In the lab, you will make the designs discussed in lecture. For your final project, you will study the design of modern digital computers from the hardware level and build a video game. 

This course introduces you to important political issues raised by climate change locally, nationally, and internationally, paying attention to the global implications of actions at the national and subnational levels. We focus on specific problems, and solutions. You learn about some of the technological and policy innovations that are being developed worldwide in response to the challenges of climate change.

This course offers an introductory survey of Korean culture and society, focusing on  the modern period. You will investigate various themes essential to comprehending Korea, such as Confucianism, modernization, colonialism, nationalism, industrialization, democratization, gender relations, US-Korea relations, and contemporary pop culture. 

This course explores the science and practice of ecological restoration with a focus on transforming our campus into a model of sustainability. You engage in hands-on projects to restore local ecosystems, reduce environmental impact, and reimagine the campus as a living laboratory for ecological resilience.

This course studies of the mafia in its historical, social, economic, cultural, and political dimensions. A wide range of novels, films, testimonies and TV series offer different representations of the Mafia: its ethics, its relationship with politics, religion and business, its ideas of friendship, family, masculinity and femininity. 

What makes one Jewish? Is it a matter of religion, ethnicity, race, nationality, culture, or kinship? Must a Jew be religious? Must a Jew be a Zionist? Can a Jewish person be antisemitic? We will engage myriad voices, Jewish and non-Jewish—including your own.

Herman Melville’s 1851 Moby Dick and materials surrounding it is the subject of this course. An allegory of a nation charging toward Civil War, Moby Dick is hailed by many (and many who have never read it) as “The Great American Novel.” But which America; whose America? Written for the generation that would fight the Civil War, how does this novel continue to describe America, today?

Intensives are a chance for you to focus on a specific skill or topic during a short, concentrated seminar. Intensives usually take place over the course of one to three days, and build relevant career skills. They are taught by professionals who work in your field who are excited to help you learn and grow. They happen on and off campus, depending on the topic. Recent topics include Grant Writing, Leadership, Makerspace Use, and Starting a Business.

The Leadership Learning Lab lets you simulate situations you may find in the workplace after graduation. Mentors work with you on a program to find your strengths as a leader, and help you develop new strategies.

You work with a team on simulated tasks that let leaders understand what you're good at, and what new skills might benefit you in the future. Then together you will discuss your development plan to work towards your goals.

Bryn Mawr’s Community-Based Work Study Program lets you earn your work-study funds through an off-campus job. You may work with local non-profit groups or schools.

This lets you help local organizations while learning about local issues and gaining professional skills.
