The below email was sent by President Kim Cassidy on Thursday, Oct. 1
Dear members of the Bryn Mawr community:
Last March we held our first Community Day of Learning. More than 800 faculty, staff and students participated in all or some of the program, in which we engaged issues of “Race and Racism at Bryn Mawr and Beyond.” It was an amazing experience in many ways. The day created a variety of ways for us to engage issues that are not always easy to explore. It also offered all of us the opportunity to learn together, and to talk to people who are not part of our daily campus lives.
Many of you have taken the time to tell me that you, too, valued this experience. We thus plan to hold a second Community Day of Learning this year on Tuesday, February 23, 2016. As was the case last year, we want to make this a “crowd-sourced” event that invites all who are interested to contribute to the planning and to the program. We will solicit ideas for the day’s theme from the campus community, and the planning group will select among those suggestions.
I have asked Ruth Lindeborg from the President’s Office to coordinate the planning effort again, and she will convene the first planning meeting on Wednesday, October 7 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in Taylor C. Any member of the campus community is welcome to be part of the planning group. If you cannot attend but are interested in being notified of future planning meetings, please email Ruth at rlindebo@brynmawr.edu.
