Community Gathers to Discuss Diversity Issues on Campus

November 20, 2015

Students, faculty, and staff filled Thomas Great Hall on Thursday to discuss issues of diversity on campus.

The gathering focused on concerns brought forward by students and others committed to shaping Bryn Mawr’s long-term focus on issues of race, ethnicity, and inclusion.

The Reverend Charles L. Howard of the University of Pennsylvania moderated the open discussion. Putting the event in the context of other movements happening on campuses across the United States, Howard praised both Bryn Mawr’s students and administration for coming together to deal with difficult and important topics.

Following the event, the BMC Coalition, a group whose stated mission is to “empower students to create long-lasting institutional change through collaborative partnerships and accountability among administration, faculty, staff and students,” posted for the community their proposed ten-year plan to increase institutional support for access and inclusion at Bryn Mawr.
