What's happening at your internship? We would love to hear what kind of work you are doing!

At my internship at Transition Town Media, we are actively working on launching a food composting partnership with ten restaurants in Media, PA. Our efforts have involved reaching out to various local compost haulers, such as Mother Compost and compost collection, to establish partnerships. Additionally, we have held several meetings with external stakeholders who are supporting us in this process. Notable individuals who have been involved include Senator Tim Kearney, Zero Waste Consultant Alex Danovitch, Chief Sustainability Officer of Delaware County Francine Locke, and Business Authority of Media Borough Dave Fairman. I have also been working on creating a comprehensive food composting manual for the restaurants that involve best practices and challenges to food composting.

Why did you apply for this internship?

I did a Praxis project based in Media Borough, and my supervisor recommended me to apply for an internship with Transition Town Greater Media, a non-profit organization committed to advancing sustainable development goals in Media Borough through projects in zero waste, climate resilience, environmental education, and renewable energy. I intend to pursue a career in sustainability consulting, so I was thrilled at the idea of working with an organization where I could understand and learn the nuts and bolts of sustainability projects and network with people working in the sustainability space.

What has been your favorite part of this internship?

During my summer internship at Transition Town Greater Media, one of the most fulfilling and exciting aspects has been the opportunity to network with professionals in the sustainability field. Engaging with individuals who are passionate about creating a positive impact in their community has not only expanded my knowledge and greatly motivated me but has also opened doors to potential mentorship and job opportunities.

Can you give us three adjectives and three nouns that describe your internship experience?

Fulfilling, inspiring, transformative

Networking, learning, opportunity
