Supporting One Another in Light of Haverford Events

October 9, 2026

The below message was sent to faculty, staff, and students on October 9, 2026.

Dear Bryn Mawr Community,

I write to share Haverford College President Wendy Raymond's letter to the Haverford community earlier this week regarding the recent arrest of Professor Guangtian Ha.

At Bryn Mawr, we condemn harassment and discrimination in all forms, including those based on identity, background, or belief. We stand with our Haverford colleagues, friends, and neighbors in affirming the values of dignity, belonging, and mutual respect that are essential to academic communities.

We are also in communication with Bryn Mawr students who may have been recently impacted by Professor Ha and will be attentive to their wellbeing. Our collective responsibility is to help ensure that every member of the community can participate in the life of the College with dignity, safety, and a genuine sense of belonging.  We strongly encourage anyone in our community who has experienced any form of harassment or discrimination to report it to our Office of Civil Rights and Title IX so that the College can provide support and respond appropriately. More information on the College’s procedures following reports of discrimination and harassment can be found within the Interim Policy for the Prevention of Discrimination, Discriminatory Harassment, and Retaliation.

Please reach out for the support you need now or at any time. Students can reach a counselor during business hours at 610-526-7360 or after hours by calling 610-526-7778. In-person support is available for students from the Counseling Service office by appointment or walk-in. Employees may contact the Employee Assistance Program for counseling and other support services.

If you seek support or spiritual care, contact either of our interfaith chaplains, Rabbi Nora Weiser-Woods nwoods@brynmawr.edu or Soaad Talat Elbahwati at selbahwati@brynmawr.edu.

Please know that we hold all who have been affected by this incident in our care, and we remain committed to supporting one another with compassion, dignity, and respect.

Sincerely,

Wendy

Message sent October 6, 2026, to the Haverford College community:

Friends: Earlier today, Professor Guangtian Ha was arrested and charged with online harassment and intimidation. I am deeply distressed by these allegations and want to state in the plainest of terms that any form of harassment or discrimination based on identity is unacceptable, antithetical to our values, and has no place at Haverford.

Professor Ha, who was on sabbatical leave and not teaching this academic year, has been placed on administrative leave and barred from campus while the criminal process moves forward. A representative of the College has been in contact with the individuals targeted by these heinous online attacks, which were antisemitic in nature. I also want to thank the FBI, Haverford Township Police Department, and Campus Safety for aiding in the investigation.

I am heartbroken and furious at the possibility that an individual within our community would seek to inflict such pain on another. This disturbing news is made even more harmful for many given its proximity to both the Jewish High Holidays and the third anniversary of the October 7 attacks.

Please know that resources are available should you need them, including counseling, spiritual care, and Campus Safety. CAPS counselors will also be available for drop-in sessions today from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

These types of actions have no place in our community and I encourage anyone who experiences bias to file a report so it can be properly investigated.

With deep care for our community,

Wendy Raymond
President
