I Met My: Cara and Chris

February 14, 2018

“We have the same initials... so we would call ourselves 'Team CP.'"

Bi-Co couple Cara Petonic ’07 and Chris Prieto (HC ’07) had their first date in the Pem West Living Room. Twelve years later, they’re married with a baby boy born in August of 2017. Dating gave them each a newfound respect for the other’s campus — namely, Chris’ love of Bryn Mawr’s free laundry — and their bi-co connection doubled their friend network.

Highlights from Cara and Chris’s interview:

Cara: Elise Lavender ’07 and I went to Chris’s apartment right before spring break. And he made us what we deemed “scampironi.”

Chris: Perfect college meal.

Cara: It was Pasta Roni with shrimp.

Chris: It doesn’t come with shrimp. I bought the shrimp separately.

Cara: I was actually impressed! It was pretty good.

Cara: I remember when I knew I liked him. I had a class at Haverford and kept noticing him studying on the green.

Chris: I don’t do that. I’m allergic to grass.

Cara: And I would happen to dress nicely for those classes.

Describing their connection with each other today after becoming new parents:

Cara: We have the same initials so we call ourselves “Team CP.” And now, more than ever, we rely on Team CP. When things get tough he reminds me, “We’re a team. We'll get through this.” Though, there's always a question of whether the baby will wear a Bryn Mawr or Haverford onesie.

Chris: We try to keep it as controlled chaos but sometimes it just unravels into chaos.

Cara: You know, it’s just the new normal that we’re adjusting to.

Chris describing why he is proud to be married to a Bryn Mawr woman:

Chris: Sometimes she’s a little feisty.

Cara: Sometimes?

Chris: [Bryn Mawr women] are very intelligent, smart and independent. But they also know how to be part of a good team.

Cara: Oh what a good answer! Gosh you’re good. Many reasons I married this guy … he’s got good answers.
